TC-2 Activity Report

TC-2 Activity Report

Technical Committee II (TC2) of The Asian Civil Engineering Coordinating Council (ACECC) writes up typical river disaster problems in TC2 countries. We selected 10 papers in a final report. The first paper describes TC2 activities and explanations in Asian river disasters and others explains flood damages in each countries. Mainly TC2 activities are business meeting in Singapore when APD/IAHR congress and network making for disaster information. During TC2, Korea, Taiwan and Japan had big damages by Typhoons. These damages have still showed that we can not prevent disaster yet and must learn from many case studies. Korea and Japan have developed disaster prevention system using IT. However, resident people cannot use it efficiently and need drill how to use it. Taiwan is still worrying about sedimentation and debris disaster after the big earthquake. They are making great efforts for evacuation of people constructing hard and soft wares. The TC2 action is terminated in this year. The committee is not so active but we obtained variety experiences and knowledge from above activities. We must share our four years of experiences in TC2 and use it in future for river disaster prevention. Now there are many associations and organizations in terms of Asian river problems. We will contribute these experiences to them. Finally, we would like to thank the executive committee of ACECC for providing us with TC2 chance.
